Finance Minister follows Museveni Directives, Returns stolen Iron sheets

The Finance Minister of Uganda, Matia Kasaija has joined some of the government officials that returned the Karamoja iron sheets received from Karamoja Affairs Ministry, under the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

Speaking to journalists in Namanve, Mr. David Kayongo, a senior assistant secretary for finance and administration at OPM who has been deployed at OPM’s Namanve warehouses to oversee the procedure, stated that Kasaija had returned the iron sheets but they were less by two.

“He brought back 298 out of the 300 iron sheets. He has promised to bring the remaining two ironsheets,” Mr Kayongo said.

Kasaija is the latest minister to return iron sheets after Speaker Anita Among, State Minister for Finance and Planning Amos Lugoloobi and State Minister for Defence, Jacob Oboth-Oboth.

The Speaker’s team returned 500 pieces while Lugoloobi and Oboth-Oboth returned 600 and 300 iron sheets respectively.

It has been on record that the former speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga refused to return the iron sheets but preferred to pay for them after diverting them to Kamuli, her electoral area.
