Less than 40 days on the job: Minister’s Bodyguard reveals why he shot his boss before shooting himself.

The Minister of State for Labour, Col. (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo, was shot from his home in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala City by the bodyguard on Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m.

According to eyewitnesses, the bodyguard later shot himself dead from inside a nearby saloon, about 100 meters away from the home of the deceased.

In the incident that happened at the minister’s home, it is reported that the UPDF bodyguard went on a shooting spree, shouting his grievances.

“The man kept on shouting on the streets while shooting “….I work for a whole minister and yet I’m broke..” comedian Patrick Idringi also known as Salvador tweeted.

Whereas eyewitnesses said the soldier was yelling that he had not been paid for a long time, the police spokesperson said it is too early to speculate.

Pte. Sabiiti had been part of the UPDF-seconded security detail for the Minister for only a month (April).
