SAD!! 3rd Year Makerere University Medical Student Succumbs to Sickle Cell

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Joshua Bagenda, a third-year student pursuing Medicine & Surgery at Makerere College of Health Services, has passed away due to complications from sickle cell disease.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday at Mulago Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where Joshua had been admitted in critical condition. The immediate cause of his death was Aspiration Pneumonia.

The 21-year-old student, who had been a resident of Mitchell Hall, left a void in the medical community with his untimely demise. The Medical Students Fraternity conveyed the somber news via Twitter on December 15, 2023.

With heavy hearts, the fraternity shared, “It’s with heavy hearts and sorrow that we announce the death of one of us, Bagenda Joshua, 21/U/0019, a 3rd-year Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery student at Makerere College of Health Services. He succumbed to Aspiration Pneumonia following ICU admission at Mulago Hospital due to sickle cell.”
