Workers Unions advise Uganda Government not to threaten demonstrating Teachers

Different workers’ unions have advised the Ugandan Government not to threaten teachers who are demonstrating for a pay rise.

The National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) among others that joined in asked the government to listen to the teachers’ plights instead of threatening them with getting fired.

Speaking at the annual Local government workers union conference , the NOTU Chairperson Wilson Owere advised the Government not to fire the Arts students but look into raising there salaries just like the science Teachers’ salary was raised.

Arts teachers started striking over low pay after their Science counterparts were given a pay rise this financial year, claiming that the conditions all teachers work in are the same and there should be no justification as to why there should be a wide gap in pay range.
