On Thursday the NBS After 5 crew — Sheila Gashumba, DJ Roja, Douglas Lwanga, MC Kats, and DJ Mercy — invited Nimrod Nabeeta to clarify why he thinks DJ Lito didn’t deserve an AFRIMA award.
At the eighth edition of the awards held this month, Lito was named Best African DJ. Nabeeta, popularly known as DJ Nimrod, is among those who believe he didn’t deserve the award.
“He campaigned so that he can win the award,” Nimrod claimed during the show.
Gashumba: “Which DJs did you want to be nominated or would you want to be nominated next time?”
Gashumba: “Yes.”
Nimrod: “Who does not want to eat cake?”
Gashumba: “Ha… Nimrod, also you! bye, bye, bye, hehehe.”
[It’s at this point that Nimrod revealed his long-held feelings.]
Lwanga: “Ah-uh-aa, me, she is my sister, I don’t want to date her.”
In the course of the interview, Nimrod was asked if he isn’t just envious and he responded: “No, everyone deserves a win, and that’s why I said congratulations to him, but question is, how are you winning this? There are so many Ugandan deejays who do events, who have been to concerts and things like that. Personally, I’ve not known Lito for even a year.”
Gashumba pressed: “Okay, so, I wanted to ask Nimrod one thing, do you know that there was criteria where they ask people to nominate themselves…?”
Nimrod: “No, I did not.”
MC Kats: “That’s your problem… you are not always on the internet.”
Nimrod: “No, even if they were asking for that… [I think those guys have the means to research and find out who the deejay is]…”
Asked if his problem is the deejay or the song, he responded: “My question is, where did he come from?” [Lito features in Tick Talk, which also brought in the talents of Bebe Cool, Sheilah Gashumba, and the duo of Slick Stuart & DJ Roja.]
Meanwhile, Nimrod said for him he’s been around for a while and he has experience. They also assured him that today there are many ways of getting recognised so fast, i.e., through social media.
