Over 20 NGOs halted from opperation, 15 others indefinitely suspended due to illegal opperation

The National bureau for Non-Govrnmental Organisations (NGO Bureau) under it’s mandate to register, regulate, monitor,inspect, coordinate and over see all NGO operations in the country has halted 54 non compliment NGOs in accordance with the NGO Act 2016.

The bureau halted ovet 20 NGOs whose permits were expired among which included the Afica Institue for Energy Governance.

The Executive Director, Okello Stephen while addressing the press on Friday in Kampala said that with would be done “with immediate effect”.

According to stephen, other NGOs were suspended due to constantly failing to file thier returns and audited books of accounts among other non compliance issues among which include Chapter Four Uganda 2016- 2020 and 14 others.

The bureau made steps to ensure that the non compliant Organisations do not operate and are stopped with immediate effect, called upon the DNMCs and Sub-county NGO Monitoring Committees
(SNMCs) to ensure that all NGOs and CBOs are compliant with the NGO
Act 2016 and NGO Regulations 2017 by allowing only those registered and
with valid permits to operate in their districts and are furnishing annual
returns and any required information to the relative authorities and inform all NGOs and CBOs that only those registered, with valid permits and
those compliant with submission of annual returns and audited books of
accounts will be allowed to operate.
