According to the Police, the fatal accident occurred at Kicunga village in Kiryandongo district involving a Makome bus from Gulu, registration number UAR 339M, and a trailer, registration number SSD 517E/UAF 901U, that had broken down.
The Traffic Police officer in charge of Kiryandongo district, Patrick Lachen Otika, confirmed the accident and identified the deceased as George Omal, a resident of Amuru who was a passenger on the bus.
The two other victims were rushed to Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment and Omal’s body was taken to the mortuary pending a postmortem.
Otika noted that the accident was registered under the file TAR 92/22 and that the bus driver fled immediately after the accident.
The Police attributed the accident to overspeeding and reckless driving which Otika warned drivers against and urged them to follow the traffic rules and regulations.
The accident comes barely a week after three people died in a road accident at Nora Kamdini sub-county in Oyam district on the same road.
