Shock as female passenger on Kigali-Kampala Bus dies in transit

Passengers traveling in a bus from Kigali to Kampala were on Wednesday evening shocked after a female passenger died in transit.

The driver and passengers in the bus registration number RAD 639G, belonging to Trinity Express company, had their journey cut short while on Kabale-Mbarara road after the bus conductor was informed that a yet-to-be-identified female passenger had breathed her last.

The driver of the bus, whose name was withheld, proceeded to Mbarara Police Station where he reported the incident and was immediately directed to drive and park at the Police playground where a team of police detectives dressed in protective gear retrieved the body and kickstarted investigations.

It was later established that the deceased had liver complications and was travelling to Mulago Hospital for treatment and was accompanied by a relative when she passed away.

The body was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem as other passengers consoled the relative.

Passengers remained stranded after the bus driver was ordered to park and together with the relative, of the deceased, go to the Police and make a statement.

“We have not checked the body whether it has injuries or not, but first park and go to the Police and make a statement,” a detective was heard telling the driver.

When contacted, Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson, said he was waiting for further details from police detectives and a postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
