Uganda’s security services have arrested four suspects in the murder of Kampala-based lawyer, Ronald Mukisa.
Police said in a statement on Sunday morning that the “Joint Security task team of CID, CMI and Crime Intelligence, that has actively been investigating the violent murder of city lawyer, Mukisa Ronnie, of IBC Advocates, made a breakthrough and arrested 4 key suspects.”
The law enforcement body said the suspects “were involved in the planning and killing of the lawyer.” The murder by shooting occurred on the night of May 30, 2023, at Kitiko Birongo, Ndejje Division, Makindye Sebagabo, in Wakiso District.
Mukisa arrived at the apartment parking lot at approximately 11:30 p.m. After parking his dark blue Subaru Legacy, registration number UBJ 006K, Mr. Mukisa proceeded to close the gate
It was during his return to the apartment that neighbours heard gunshots, prompting them to investigate the commotion.
Eyewitnesses saw an unidentified individual shooting at Mukisa before briefly withdrawing, only to return and shoot him at close range multiple times in the head.
The brutal murder shocked the nation. Sources say President Museveni directed security services to trace the suspects. Police quickly detained Mukisa’s wife to help with investigations.
“Since the tragic murder, our joint task team has worked tirelessly to establish the killers,” said police on Sunday morning, adding, “More details will be shared accordingly.” The murder came at a time of increased gun violence in the country.
Uganda’s famous vlogger, Ibrahim Tusubilwa, alias Isma Jaja Iculi, was killed on March 6 in Kampala under mysterious circumstances.
He was also ambushed and shot dead outside his residence in Kyanja, Kampala. Mukisa’s assassin, just like in Isma’s case, also fled on a waiting motorcycle.
These gun deaths have raised concerns about the presence of an organized criminal gang in the country, taking out people’s lives at will. Police have yet to arrest suspects in Isma’s murder.
