PRISON BREAK! 15 Prisoners escape from Rwampara cells

The Uganda Police Force together with other Security Agencies are investigating circumstances under which over 15 suspects escaped from lawful custody from Rwampara Central Police Station in Buteraniro-Nyeihanga Town Council in Rwampara District.

Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira told journalists yesterday evening that the escape was reported by one of the Police Officers identified as Akankwatsa Anthony who said that the escape took place today early morning when suspects managed to break out of the male Police cells through a hole they had dug from inside.

Kasasira said that some suspects that escaped from custody are involved in various crimes, including defilement, theft, violence, drug possession, arson, and robbery.

Kasasira named the escapees as Twimatsiko Ignatius, Aronda Salim, Ariho Erick, Muhumuza Barclays, Tumwekwatse Yakobu, Nyesiga Jackson, Tujunirwe Medard, Baguma Rogers, Akampa Benson, Turinawe Laubel, Atukunda Lawrence, Mwijukye Joram, Tusiime Akara, Muhanguzi Ronald, and Kamugisha Denis.

Kasasira said that disciplinary action has been taken against the officers on duty for neglecting their duties, and an inquiry is underway.
