The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has come out to clarify on the poster at the Entebbe International Airport restricting photography and filming.
The public affairs manager, Vianney Mpungu Luggya, while talking to this reporter, said the reminder message restricting photography and filming is only intended for operational restricted/sensitive areas within the terminal building at the airport.
“I want to clarify that the reminder message restricting photography and filming relates ONLY to operational restricted/sensitive areas within the terminal building (such as security screening areas and equipment, among other sensitive areas). This is not a new measure,” he said, adding that filming has always been restricted, and only takes place with prior permission.
He added: “Recently, some people had unfortunately adopted a practice of filming the security screening process and equipment. We are committed to implementing measures for a better passenger experience, but airport security and safety of all travelers will not be compromised.”
Luggya, however, said selfies and other memorable video moments may be undertaken in the departure concourse (pre-boarding and duty-free area) after the last security check or at the land side before accessing the security-restricted area.

“We have noted various trending social media videos highlighting cases of alleged extortion of money from passengers through the Entebbe International Airport. Uganda Civil Authority does not in anyway condone such acts, and where such acts have happened, it is highly regrettable and unacceptable,” the statement read in part.
It further read: “We would like to assure the public that previously reported cases with specific details have been thoroughly investigated, and where staff of various agencies operating at the airport were found culpable, serious disciplinary action was taken including termination of contracts and withdrawal of airport access passes from them.”
